Bjorn Zachrisson completed his dental studies in Stockholm, Sweden in 1963 and then went on to postgraduate training in Oslo, Norway. In 1968, he received the Master's Degree in Histochemistry at the University of Oslo, and in 1968 the Doctorate Degree (Odont.Dr.) at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He became an authorized specialist in Orthodontics in 1969.

His academic experience includes teaching posts in endodontics, cariology, dental radiology, pedodontics, and orthodontics at the Universities of Stockholm and Oslo. In 1979, he was a full time Visiting Professor at the Department of Orthodontics, Loma Linda University in California. He has maintained a private practice limited to orthodontics in Kristiansand S from 1967 to 1969, and in Oslo, Norway since 1970.

Dr. Zachrisson has published more than 150 scientific and clinical articles in international journals and textbooks in orthodontics, periodontics, and general dentistry. His chapter on Bonding in Orthodontics in the 2nd and 3rd editions of the textbook Orthodontics:Current Principles and Techniques, edited by Drs. TM Graber and RL Vanarsdall Jr., is the leading text on a topic of importance to orthodontic graduate students and specialists world wide. Similarly, his chapter on Orthodontics and Periodontics in the 3rd edition of the textbook Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, edited by Drs. J Lindhe, T Karring, and NP Lang, has received international acclaim.

Dr. Zachrisson has received many awards and honors from orthodontic societies in the US, Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe. Recently, he presented the 1997 Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecture to the European Orthodontic Society in Valencia, Spain and the 1998 John Valentine Mershon Memorial Lecture to the American Association of Orthodontists in Dallas, Texas. In 1986, he was the first Jacob A. Salzmann Lecturer at the 86th Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists in Chicago, Illinois. In 1987, he presented the Arthur Thornton Taylor Lecture to the Australian Association of Orthodontists in Sydney, Australia, and in 1990 the Cecil E. Steiner Lecture at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Cailf. In addition, he has been a Keynote Speaker at several European and Scandinavian Orthodontic Congresses. In 1995, he was the Merit Award Recipient from the Orthodontic Education and Reserach Foundation in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and in 1996 he received the Calvin S. Case Award from the Kenilworth Dental Research Foundation at the University of Chicago. In 1996, he received an Award for Outstanding Scientific Contribution from the Angle Society of Europe, and in 1997 the Award of the Associated Orthodontic Journals of Europe at the 11th International Conference for Orthodontists in Munchen, Germany. In 1999, he received the Charles J. Burstone Seminar Series Award at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, Conn. and was the Kokich/Shapiro Visiting Scholar for 1999 at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He also gave the 53rd Northcroft Lecture to the British Society of Orthodontists at The Annual British Orthodontic Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2000, he presented the Steven Seward Memorial Lecture to the Australian Association of Orthodontists in Brisbane, Australia, and the L.Levern Merrifield Lecture to the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research and Education at the 23rd Biennial Meeting in Washington,D.C.

Dr. Zachrisson is a honorary member of the Orthodontic Societies of Ireland, Republic of China (Taiwan), South Africa and Israel, the Scandinavian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, and the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, and a member of the Editorial Boards of the British Journal of Orthodontics, Seminars in Orthodontics, Angle Orthodontist, Clinical Orthodontics and Research, Practical Periodontics & Aesthetic Dentistry, The Electronic Journal for Dentistry, and World Journal of Orthodontics.

Dr. Zachrisson has presented numerous 1, 2 or 3-day courses in Europe, USA, Canada, South America, Australia, Asia, and Africa. He has been an invited speaker to more than 85 International Congresses in Orthodontics, Periodontics, Esthetic Dentistry or General Dentistry, including 15 Annual Congresses of the American Association of Orthodontists since 1975. His lectures from 1994, 1996, and 1998 are recorded and available on AAO videotapes.
